Unify with Us

We have been living with COVID-19 disruptions for over a month and as we look ahead, we know the future continues to remain uncertain.

This is a traumatic event, disrupting and forever changing our lives in small and large ways. It is revealing the inadequacies and systemic inequities across society, what happens when we ignore science, and at the same time it is also showing the power of community and local government action. We are responding with sacrifices for the common good and with hope, resilience and determination. Out of this crisis we can build something better.

This month, we have some positive news to share. We welcome Danyale Green, Organizational Development and Equity Manager! Danyale brings a passion for equitable practices, organization efficiency, and systems.

We wrote a chapter in a recently published book – Teaching Climate Change in the U.S. which highlights best practices in the field of climate change education. We’re honored to be included as an organization dedicated to providing climate change education since 2006. We also published a book, together with our Minnesota community: Eyewitness: Minnesota Voices on Climate Change. Copies will be available by donation, April 22.

Our nimbleness and flexibility muscles are strong: our programs team has provided webinars on education resources for distance learning, youth action at home, a climate change and COVID-19 toolkit, and more, just in the last few weeks!

We look forward to a one-of-a-kind event in honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day: our virtual Storytelling Slam on April 22nd! The event features an amazing line up (details below) where you will hear personal experiences of climate change, including: stories, poems and musical performances to encourage our spirits, create connection, and build solidarity. During moments of difficulty, grounding ourselves in our community can help to uplift us for the challenge at hand.

Finally, we applaud the creative fundraising efforts launched by partners at Climate Ride (Climate Rise with us on April 18!) and GiveMN where you can support our virtual programming, meeting the needs of our audiences, from the comfort of your home, May 1-8. You can also join us May 19 for a Virtual Climate Trivia event where our team will select a partner nonprofit to dedicate event proceeds for direct COVID-19 relief efforts.

Our best to all of you as we navigate this new reality. Just remember we are strong and resilient! Thank you for being a part of the Climate Generation community.

Be well, stay healthy and safe,

Nicole Rom, Executive Director
